“Little Britches” by Ralph Moody, is autobiographical, but you’d never know it, as it is filled with adventure and drama and reads like an interesting novel. Ralph’s parents are hard-working and full of integrity, not to mention wisdom, and this is how they bring up their children. This book is a great read aloud for a family, but since reading it to my children, I have re-read it many times on my own. It’s enjoyable and inspirational. Note that the main character is a boy, which given how classical children’s literature seems to have a preponderance of girls as main characters, fills in that gap somewhat. There are many more books in the series as Ralph grows up, and they are all good, but this first book is the best.
