Please, don’t “Yes, But…”

There is a place, where “Yes, but..” is perfectly acceptable. “Do you want a second piece of chocolate cake?” “Yes, but I really shouldn’t.” Perfectly acceptable, and probably wise.

However, the world has been filled with a certain “Yes, but…” that is completely offensive.

Yes, Hamas murdering innocent civilians in cold blood was wrong, but…”

Any “but” in this context is very, very wrong. Because even if  there were actual legitimate grievances, the atrocities committed are evil. Period. No “buts about it. In this case, the grievances stated are simply lies, and anyone who believes them doesn’t know the history of the region.

Think about it. Please don’t be a perpetrator of “yes, but” about Hamas killing more than fourteen hundred innocent people (including beheading babies, raping women, hacking people’s bodies) and taking 200 hostages (including babies, children, elderly and everyone in between). And if you hear people say, “Yes, but…” please correct them. There is no “but” about it.
