Perfect peace sounds like a fantasy, doesn’t it? I mean, how is that possible? It’s quite simple, really:
“You keep him in prefect peace
whose mind is stayed on you,
because he trusts in you.
Trust in the LORD forever,
for the LORD God is an everlasting rock” (Isaiah 26:3-4).
It’s all about where our mind is “staying.” The things in this world are enough to rob us of peace – wars, sickness, tyrannical government overreach, woke craziness, division among friends and family, skyrocketing prices, possible food shortages…how can anyone read the items I just listed and have any peace? Because if we know the ever-so-trustworthy and powerful God, if we keep our mind “stayed” on Him, then we know that He is working out His plans, He will take care of us, He will be with us no matter what.
When I feel anxious, I realize that I am looking at the metaphorical wind and waves around me – and they are real – but when I look to God, when I “stay” my mind on God, then I can actually have perfect peace. Because as real as the scary things are, they are temporary and God is eternal ultimately – He is in control!
There are so many instances described in the Bible of God doing the impossible for His people, and I have many such instances in my life as well. God is the Master of the Universe – good, kind, trustworthy, and ever present with His people. So I look to Him and have perfect peace.
