Day 4: Read Genesis 2:15-25

The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it… Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone, I will make him a helper fit for him.” (2:15, 18)

God gave Adam a job to do and some instructions and let him do the job (while not micro-managing him) and yet He didn’t just leave – God brought the animals to Adam “to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name” (Genesis 2:19).

God also was present enough and involved enough to see that “there was not found a helper fit for him” (Genesis 2:20). And so God created Eve.

Often in my “job” as a mother, I have not known how to handle a situation. The times I have remembered to consult God and ask Him for wisdom, He has given it to me. I am so grateful that He is always present and available. (Full disclosure: I haven’t always remembered to ask Him. But when I do, He is there.)

Prayer: Thank you, God, that you are ever present with us. You give us what to do, and yet you don’t abandon us, but intervene when You see fit. You make sure that our needs are met!

Thank God for the specific things He has given you to do and ask for His help as needed – in my case: Thank you God for a husband to help, children to raise, a house to take care of, books to write – please give me the wisdom for this service to You, to do all these things well, and for your glory! Amen.
