In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. (1:1-3)
Throughout this portion (if you haven’t read the first twenty-five verses, I suggest you do so before continuing) we read: “And God said…” and it was so. “And God said…” and it was so. “And God said…” and it was so. The Almighty God created this world (sun, moon, stars, trees, bushes, birds, fish, animals, etc.) out of nothing, simply by speaking things into existence. This is our God!
When things in my life seem impossible for me to deal with, it helps me to turn my thoughts to this part of Scripture, to the beginning, where God’s words created the most amazing things out of nothing. When I remember this, it builds my faith and I pray knowing that it is to this powerful God that I am bringing my needs.
Prayer: God, You were there before the beginning! You are the Creator and there is none like You! You spoke the Creation into being! You are so powerful and creative, and I thank You that I can come to you with all my needs, and You can speak to them. You can change my circumstances with a word, or You can speak to me to direct me what to do. Hallelujah! (Talk to God about the specific areas where you need His powerful intervention)
