Day 24: Read Genesis 16

So she called the name of the LORD who spoke to her, “You are a God of seeing,” for she said, “Truly here I have seen Him who looks after me.” (16:3)

The Lord shows concern for all people – not just for the “main players” through whom He is working big things.

He interacts with Hagar, directing her what to do (return to her mistress) and making her a promise of “offspring so numerous that they cannot be numbered for multitude” (Genesis 16:10).

Hagar feels cared for, “Truly here I have seen Him who looks after me” (Genesis 16:13) and is able to obey God’s directive.

It must have been hard to return to Sarah, although Hagar provoked Sarah in the first place by “looking with contempt” on her (Genesis16: 4).  But when we know we are seen and cared for by God, we can do hard things.

The hard things that God is directing us to do can be as simple as saying sorry to someone, or talking to a stranger God is directing you to, or the challenge of parenting a very difficult child, or even being a godly spouse in one of the more difficult moments or seasons of marriage – I have experienced all of these at one time or another, and I have experienced how God has enabled me to keep following Him in these times.

Prayer: Lord, thank you that you see me, and you care for me. Enable me to follow all your directives, and to do _____________, because You are with me and will equip me. Amen.
