Day 45: Read Exodus 39

They made the holy garments for Aaron, as HaShem had commanded Moses (39:1).

And the skillfully woven band on it was of one piece with it and made like it, …as HaShem had commanded Moses (39:5).

And he set them on the shoulder pieces… as HaShem had commanded Moses (39:7).

And they bound the breastpiece to the rings of the ephod… as HaShem had commanded Moses (39:21).

They also made bells of pure gold… as HaShem had commanded Moses (39:25-26).

They also made the coats, woven of fine linen… as HaShem had commanded Moses (39:27-29).

And they tied it to a cord of blue… as HaShem commanded Moses (39:31).

According to all that HaShem had commanded Moses, so the people of Israel had done all the work (39:42).

Reading through this chapter, I can’t help noticing the repetition of the words describing how everything was done as HaShem commanded.

You are probably an expert at something (likely many things) – whether in the home, or at work, or serving in your congregation. One thing I am an expert in is making challah – a Jewish bread commonly served on the Sabbath. I have been making challah every week for decades. Through time, I have tweaked the original recipe. I know what makes it fluffy. If someone wanted to make it, I would not only give them the recipe, but I would also instruct them on exactly how to do so. I am completely confident that If they follow my instructions, they would create a most delicious challah.

God is an expert at all things! He certainly knows how we should live life! And just as He commanded the people through Moses regarding how to construct the tabernacle and the various articles for worship, knowing what would be best, He also commands us on how to live.

If you are instructing people on how to do that thing that you are an expert in, and they follow your instructions “to a T” and it turns out well, do you not have an immense satisfaction?

We see throughout the Bible that God is pleased with our obedience. It’s not a “power thing,” but a loving Father wanting the best for His children and being pleased that they are doing what He commands, for the best outcome – for our blessing.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for Your commands which are good and which bring life and blessing. Help me to walk in the way You command, whether it’s to be thankful, to love my enemies, to seek first your kingdom, and so much more. Amen.
